Dinner & a Movie at Tibbetts is back!
October 25, 2014
5pm–9pm Adams Hall
It is Halloween, so it’s time for a party and costumes! We will be painting pumpkins, just like we did last year. . We figure it is a bit safer to paint pumpkins than to carve pumpkins. Besides, who really likes cleaning out pumpkins? So bring your ideas for painted pumpkins; a scary face, a funny face…the possibilities are endless. Pumpkins and paints will be provided. And since it is Halloween, if the kids (and adults) want to come and show off their best Halloween costume, this is your opportunity. Who knows, we might even have prizes for best costume and best painted pumpkin.
In addition our youth group will have a few carnival type games set up for kids.
5-7pm Painting Pumpkins
6-7pm Dinner - A hearty fall soup along with tomato soup will be offered.
7-8:30pm Movie - Hocus Pocus (1993): More than 300 years ago, 3 witches were sentenced to die in Salem, Massachusetts and a boy was turned into a cat. Now it’s Halloween, and the witches (who fly on vacuum cleaners) are back. This time, they got their eyes on immortal life and have turned their wrath on trick-or-treaters and it’s up to the 300 year old cat to save the day. (Summaries provided by www.imdb.com)
Hope to see you at the movies!!!
Are you a Baker? Are you a Dessert-Lover? Or BOTH?!
We’re heading into the, shall we say–less sunny months of the year now, so the Tibbetts Leadership Team has decided a Silent Auction of Decadent Desserts is bound to raise our spirits and help fund the ministries at Tibbetts. If you make a scrumptious dessert, now’s the time to show off your culinary talents. If you’re a dessert expert, foodie, or someone who really enjoys a tasty treat, this will be the time to see what delicacies our creative bakers can make.
On October 26th following the Worship Service we’ll gather in the Parlor to see all of the pumpkins that were painted the night before during Movie Night & Pumpkin Painting. The Fellowship time that day will also include a Silent Auction of Decadent Desserts (SADD!) and we hope you’ll join in!
If you’re a Dessert-making pro, please contact church office so we can record your entry. Thank you–this will be fun (and delicious!).
Homeless people are on their feet all day, and the only pair of socks they own are very likely to be wet, especially during Seattle’s rainy time of year (September through June.) “Our feet get really chewed up,” says Fred. Working, walking around all day, and no change of socks. Yuck. You can guess how it is at night when guys in the shelter peel off their shoes.
In response, Operation Nightwatch hosts “Sock It to Homelessness” every year to kick off the seasons annual sock drive. In 2013, they collected and distributed more than 22,000 pairs of socks!
This year Tibbetts UMC will be collecting socks for the month of October. Last year we collected 166 pairs of socks, and this year, we’d like to challenge our congregation to 200 pairs of socks. Operation Nightwatch has requested that socks be men’s athletic socks “the nice, thick, comfortable ones.” Questions or comments, please contact the church office.
